Description

The Manchester Grammar School Junior Section was conceived to stimulate and develop the natural intellectual inquisitiveness of clever children before it is dulled by two years in school dominated by the requirements of SATs or independent school entrance examinations. Our boys study philosophy, North African studies and Italian; they are taught Greek by classicists, mathematics by mathematicians and the sciences by scientists. There is ample time and opportunity for sport, drama, music, outdoor pursuits and a wealth of other clubs, societies. They do not sit SATs and they do not have to pass an entrance examination to progress from Year 6 to Year 7.

We choose our boys by inviting them for a day in school when we look for those qualities of raw, natural energy and curiosity, wit and ability so that we can celebrate it and nurture it. The most effective preparation is not to prepare, rather to arrive in the morning fresh and well rested, and with an open mind, ready to have a go at anything.

Assessments for our Junior Section begin in January and continue throughout the spring term. For further information on entry to our Junior Section, Senior Section and Sixth Form please visit our website mgs.org, or telephone our Admissions Manager, Kath Heathcote, on 0161 224 7201 Ext 234.
