Description
The Three Shires Textile Festival 4 - 19 July
The festival is named after Three Shires Head, a well known beauty spot in the Peak District where Cheshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire meet. Much of the history of the some our local towns and villages is linked to the textile industry especially in Macclesfield, Congleton and Leek all of which became known as fabric towns. There are plenty of events taking place in the area to celebrate its textile heritage, its strong connections to the Arts and Crafts Movement in Leek, ribbon and velvet making in Congleton, silk weaving and design in Macclesfield and the cotton mills of Bollington and Styal.
Family friendly events include. On 4 July you take part in the Wool Experience at Blaze Farm, Wildboarclough with a demonstration of spinning and weaving, nature trail and fun quiz. There is a Tactile Textiles workshop at Old Hall at Tatton (suitable for children aged 7 and over) on 19 July, where you can watch demonstrations by costumed guides and plenty of "hands on" activities and on 26 August youngsters can take part in some modern silk dying at Macclesfield Silk Museum.
